Cheese and Wine Tasting

Intro with Blind Wine Game – £25

Would you like to explore & know more about New World wines, or learn quirky grape varieties?

Enjoy the blind tasting wine game & test your tasting knowledge of  the world of wines, and everyone can join in the fun.

Our introductory pairings of cheeseboards are a selection of the local produce from Northern Ireland and a complimentary bottle of wine used in the blind wine game.

House Trained Pet

At Mourne Holidays, we understand that dogs are part of the family.

Forget the stress of kennels and any feelings of guilt and worry you might have leaving your pet pooch behind because with our dog-friendly homes, the whole family is welcome whether they are on two legs or four!

The house has a fenced garden and walks direct from the house perfect for your pet. There is a utility room for your pet to sleep in comfort.

Gone Fishing

Fishing Rod For Stay – £10

Fish for Wild Brown Trout in Spelga Dam with fishing licence.

Spelga Dam reservoir is open to Department of Agriculture permit holders. This is a very popular fishery in the summer months (March to October). The fish do not run large, but there are plenty of them, and provide good fun on a small Mepps, or on the fly.

Northern Ireland’s longest river, the Bann rises in the Mournes above Spelga Reservoir, flows down through Hilltown to Banbridge, Portadown and into Lough Neagh and then to the Atlantic Ocean at Portstewart. Bag limit: 3 fish per day (Brown Trout Jul/Aug), 2 Salmon per day (Aug/Sep)

Picnic at Lough Shannagh

“Lough of the Fox” – £10

Picnic bag and map provided for the idealic trip to Loughshannagh lake with a surrounding beach and Mountain backdrop.

We can also arrange as a safari trip, chauffeured in a Landrover, and champagne, as an extra with additional charge applying.

A long time ago there was a great hunter called Sheelagh, the daughter of one of the Clan Chiefs. On a hunt in the area around the Mournes she chased a fox.  The lough is now known as Lough Shannagh or the ‘Lough of the Fox’. Apparently, when the mist closes in, the woman can be seen haunting the lough; on her horse, chasing the fox into the lough.

Stargazing with Santa

November & December Only – £5 each

Santa Claus will arrive ringing bells, on the first evening of your holiday, to give you a virtual tour of the heavens, using his magical telescope to show the night sky at its best, in the high mountains. The Christmas story will be told by Santa himself, and kids will be thrilled with the search for the Christmas Star. View wonders such as the great hunter Orion and his wonderful nebula, the seven sisters, Taurus the Bull and the mighty Jupiter.

Presents will be delivered to each child, before Santa disappears off into the night sky.
A Christmas movie night and hot chocolate will be provided on the second night of your stay, and mulled wine for the adults.

Spelga House & Lodge

Spelga House has spectacular views of the surrounding Mourne Mountains.

The house sits in front of the dam wall, on top of the Mournes, and is the highest located house in Northern Ireland.
